NSW: Liati made hazy statement to meet Einfeld
By Katelyn John
SYDNEY, Feb 2 AAP - A woman gave a statement to police about an event she could hardly
remember because she wanted to meet former Federal Court judge Marcus Einfeld, a Sydney
court has heard.
Angela Liati, 55, has pleaded not guilty in the NSW District Court to making a false
statement on August 23, 2006 with intent to pervert the course of justice.
The jury was told Mr Einfeld claimed before a magistrate he had not been driving his
car on January 8, 2006, and an American friend was behind the wheel.
He later pleaded guilty to a number of charges laid against him.
In her 2006 statement, Liati said she was with Theahresa (Theahresa) Brennan - a friend
she had made on a meditation retreat in 2005 - in Mr Einfeld's car on that day.
She claimed the pair were in Sydney's north, shopping in Mosman, having lunch at Balmoral
and buying a pair of jeans in Chatswood.
Crown prosecutor Lou Lungo said this was a false statement, saying there was no record
of Liati or a Ms Brennan attending any meditation retreat.
He said credit card statements also showed Liati was at a surf shop in Bondi Junction
in Sydney's east at the time she claimed to be with Ms Brennan.
In her opening address to a NSW District Court jury on Monday, Liati - who is defending
herself - said the case against her contained "fundamental mistakes" made by the media,
police and some lawyers who acted "irresponsibly".
But she admitted she "was wrong on the date", saying she had not been accurate because
the lunch with Ms Brennan had been insignificant.
"When I had lunch with this lady it was not a really significant event in my life,"
Liati told the jury.
"I could not really remember the event.
"The purpose of writing down that statement was to convince the lawyers to let me speak
to Mr Einfeld."
Liati said while she did not know Mr Einfeld, she had served as a character witness
in a case when he was a barrister 30 years previously.
She told jurors she had been impressed with Mr Einfeld when she met him thinking: "I
might be speaking to the future prime minister."
But she said she felt no compunction to lie for him.
"I never, ever, ever spoke to Mr Einfeld ... I had no reason to help him," she said.
Mr Lungo said Liati had made her statement to protect Mr Einfeld from prosecution.
"The crown's case is the accused made her statement, and it was a false statement,
so the police wouldn't proceed with their prosecution," Mr Lungo said.
Judge Michael Finnane warned the jury to ignore Mr Einfeld's guilty plea and ignore
anything about his case when considering Liati's.
"Mr Einfeld is a very well known person in Australia," Judge Finnane said.
"His name is extremely well known, not just in legal circles. Consequently a lot of
interest was generated in the press."
Judge Finnane also warned the jurors they must not look up any information on Mr Einfeld
or Liati on the internet.
The trial will continue on Tuesday.

France struggles to digest unfolding scandal of I.M.F. chief ; His defenders speculate about entrapment as U.S. judge denies bail
Byline: STEVEN ERLANGER; KATRIN BENNHOLD; JOHN ELIGON
Type: News
As the case unfolded in New York, shock at the arrest of the I.M.F. chief on sexual assault charges has turned among some to distress over facets of the U.S. court system.
French shock at the arrest of Dominique Strauss-Kahn on sexual assault charges has turned among some to suspicion and anger, with his defenders questioning the initial New York police account and speculating about entrapment, and many others characterizing news photos of the handcuffed suspect as insulting and unfair.
Some of Mr. Strauss-Kahn's supporters raised questions about the U.S. handling of the case and hinted at a role by his French political opponents.
On Monday, a judge in a New York courtroom ordered Mr. Strauss- Kahn, the managing director of the International Monetary Fund, held without bail over allegations that he sexually assaulted a maid Saturday at a Midtown Manhattan hotel. He was taken to the Rikers Island jail, where he was to be held in protective custody in a single-person cell.
The French blogosphere and news outlets, especially on the Internet, were busy trying to dissect Mr. Strauss-Kahn's day Saturday, before he boarded the plane at John F. Kennedy International Airport, where the police detained him. Citing unidentified allies of Mr. Strauss-Kahn, they suggested that he had lunch with his daughter before boarding the plane to make a flight that had been reserved in advance; that he may have checked out of his hotel before lunch with his daughter; and that he may have had lunch after the alleged attack was said to have taken place.
In other words, they suggested, he did not flee in haste, as the police had said in their comments on the case.
The Socialist politician Jean-Christophe Cambadelis, a close ally of Mr. Strauss-Kahn, said: "In the file, there are a lot of contradictions beginning with the escape, which was acknowledged today didn't happen."
Another question raised was about the timing of the flood of Twitter posts around the scandal, with the first one reportedly sent by a French student who is a member of President Nicolas Sarkozy's center-right party. Twenty-four minutes later, a post by Arnaud Dassier, who ran Mr. Sarkozy's online election campaign in 2007, spread the news further, apparently before any New York newspaper.
Others said that a setup seemed even more implausible. Bradley D. Simon, a former U.S. prosecutor turned criminal defense lawyer with offices in New York and Paris, thought the idea "far-fetched" and said, "The only way there can be a setup in the first place is that there is an acknowledgement that he is predisposed to such actions."
Or as Liberation, normally sympathetic to the left, concluded in an editorial Monday: "Dominique Strauss-Kahn knew that he was his own worst enemy."
But there was also outrage about the photos of Mr. Strauss-Kahn cuffed in custody. While the so-called perp walk is a police tradition, allowing the news media to get photographs of a suspect, a 2000 law in France tries to reinforce the principle of the presumption of innocence by criminalizing the publication of photos of an identifiable person in handcuffs who has not yet been convicted.
The former French justice minister whose name is on the law, Elisabeth Guigou, said she found the photos of Mr. Strauss-Kahn in cuffs indicative of "a brutality, a violence, of an incredible cruelty, and I'm happy that we don't have the same judiciary system."
On Tuesday, the opposition Socialists, who had been widely expected to choose Mr. Strauss-Kahn as their presidential candidate against Mr. Sarkozy, planned to debate their plans for the future. But the party leader, Martine Aubry, declined to say whether she would contest the presidential primary when the deadline for nominations expires in July. "We have a timetable, and today is not the moment," she told France Info radio. "We are not changing anything in our timetable." She also said Mr. Strauss-Kahn must be seen as innocent unless proved not to be.
The denial of bail was a striking defeat for Mr. Strauss-Kahn, whom many had seen as a leading contender to become the next president of France. Prosecutors had asked the Criminal Court judge, Melissa C. Jackson, to remand Mr. Strauss-Kahn, 62, saying that he was a flight risk. They also indicated that he may have been involved in a similar episode outside the United States.
"Some of this information includes reports he has in fact engaged in conduct similar to the conduct alleged in this complaint on at least one other occasion," said Artie McConnell, an assistant district attorney, who added that the other claim was still being investigated.
Mr. Strauss-Kahn did not enter a plea during the proceeding, nor did he speak.
The criminal complaint says that Mr. Strauss-Kahn shut the door to his suite in the Sofitel New York and prevented the housekeeper from leaving, grabbing her breasts, trying to pull down her pantyhose and grabbing her crotch.
Early indications, Mr. McConnell said, were that forensic evidence supported "the victim's version of events."
Benjamin Brafman, one of Mr. Strauss-Kahn's lawyers, argued that "this is a very, very defensible case. He should be entitled to bail." He suggested that it be set at $1 million and said that Mr. Strauss-Kahn's wife, Anne Sinclair, would provide the money.
The defense team already has found significant issues with the case, Mr. Brafman said, though he did not elaborate. Nor did he suggest that Mr. Strauss-Kahn was a victim of a setup.
Mr. Brafman added that although his client was arrested on an Air France plane that was about to take off, he was not trying to flee. He said that Mr. Strauss-Kahn's travel plans had been set for some time, and he indicated that there was evidence that between the time of the alleged attack and his flight, Mr. Strauss-Kahn was in the area of the hotel, taking care of other business.
He also said that his client had attended a lunch meeting after the time the housekeeper had given for the attack, and that his lunch partner would be able to testify. In addition, he said, the hotel staff found out he was at the airport only after he volunteered where he was.
The charges against Mr. Strauss-Kahn include various counts of sexual assault, including attempted rape, sexual abuse and criminal sexual act. He faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted and is due back in court Friday, when he is likely to learn whether the grand jury has handed down an indictment.
Interest in the details of Mr. Strauss-Kahn's case is seemingly bottomless. For example, questions arose as to how he came to stay in a $3,000-a-night suite at the Sofitel and fly first-class on Air France. On Monday, William Murray, a spokesman for the International Monetary Fund, said that Mr. Strauss-Kahn had paid $525 for the room, according to a Travelocity reservation receipt provided by Mr. Strauss-Kahn's office.

EVENING ROUND-UP: HIGHLIGHTS OF THE AAP RTV FILE AT 1630
MANUFACTURING (CANBERRA)
Prime Minister JULIA GILLARD has rejected union leaders' calls for an inquiry into
Australia's ailing manufacturing sector, suggesting they're confused over the matter.
The prime minister's been attacked by union leaders, outspoken backbencher DOUG CAMERON
and Opposition Leader TONY ABBOTT for ruling out an inquiry when many thought one was
on the cards.
Australian Workers Union boss PAUL HOWES and Australian Manufacturing Workers Union
national secretary DAVE OLIVER both walked away from talks yesterday thinking Ms GILLARD
was considering an inquiry.
Ms GILLARD says she told that meeting she wasn't looking at a free-ranging, free-wheeling
inquiry into manufacturing.
But she says the government will take the best of expert advice along the way.
Opposition Leader TONY ABBOTT says he can't understand why the government doesn't want
to be informed of the facts, after it ruled out an inquiry.
Meanwhile, Ms GILLARD's pledged to work with the Illawarra community after meeting
trade unions and workers in Wollongong today.
Also on the economy, building approvals figures appear to confirm the sector isn't
going to come galloping to the rescue of a struggling economy.
FEENEY (MELBOURNE)
Police are still trying to identify the white powder found outside Labor Senator DAVID
FEENEY's office in Melbourne.
A female employee found a handful of the powder sprinkled on the doorstep of the Brunswick
office about 9.30 this morning (AEST).
Police evacuated and cordoned off the area while two officers from the chemical biological
and radiological unit, clad in orange jumpsuits, examined the substance.
The apparent attack on Senator FEENEY's office comes days after a shovel was symbolically
placed outside the home of Health Services Union national secretary KATHY JACKSON, following
her move to refer issues relating to union accounts to NSW police.
WIKILEAKS WRAP (CANBERRA)
Wikileaks has published details of 23 Australians believed to have links to a radical
Yemen cleric with ties to terrorist group al-Qaeda.
The latest series of Wikileaks diplomatic cables have been released and contain one
from the US embassy in Canberra that recommends 11 Australians be placed on a no-fly list
and a further 12 on a select watch list.
The new details also show US officials described former prime minister KEVIN RUDD's
handling of the 2009 Oceanic Viking asylum seeker crisis as heavy-handed and awkward.
And Wikileaks revelations show former HOWARD government minister MAL BROUGH told United
States officials MALCOLM TURNBULL cared only about TURNBULL and some Liberals only supported
his leadership because they wanted to set him up to fail.
RUSSIA ISS (BOSTON)
All astronauts will be pulled off the International Space Station by mid-November if
scientists and engineers can't quickly determine the cause of last week's supply ship
crash.
An unmanned Russian cargo ship carrying three tonnes of supplies to the space station
crashed in Siberia on August 24.
According to the Los Angeles Times, officials say astronauts will temporarily abandon
the station if Russian Soyuz rockets aren't cleared to resume flights before the current
station residents are slated to leave.
SHOTS (SYDNEY)
Shots have been fired into a home in New South Wales's central west while a family
of five were sleeping.
Police say two of the three bullets penetrated the loungeroom of the house at Orange
sometime last night or early this morning (AEST).
No one heard the shots and the damage was not discovered until 7am today.
No one was hurt.
MILNE (CANBERRA)
Prime Minister JULIA GILLARD has launched a scathing attack on The Australian newspaper
for publishing false allegations about her connection to a former boyfriend's fraudulent
activities.
A column, written by GLENN MILNE yesterday, was removed from the paper's website and
an apology issued to the prime minister.
MILNE wrote that Ms GILLARD's problems with the CRAIG THOMSON affair were about to
worsen with suggestions she had been implicated unknowingly in a major union fraud of
her own before she entered parliament.
However, opposition Leader TONY ABBOTT has defended the media, saying says Australia's
vigorous press is a very good thing.
MEDICH (SYDNEY)
A Sydney court's been told prosecutors have amassed more than 24-thousand pages of
evidence in the murder case against against property tycoon Ron MEDICH AND four other
men.
Prosecutor FIONA ROWBOTHAM's told Sydney's Central Local Court the brief of evidence
was previously 13,000 pages but has surged in recent weeks.
Ms ROWBOTHAM also told the court the case will include 10 other witnesses that do not
include MEDICH'S four co-accused.
MARTIAL (CANBERRA)
Legal action has finally ended against a group of Australian commandos charged over
a raid which killed six Afghan civilians in 2009.
The Director of Military Prosecutions has today applied to formally withdraw the last
of the charges, against a regular Army officer.
Manslaughter charges against two commando reserve soldiers, a sergeant and a lance
corporal, were previously withdrawn at a pre-trial hearing in May.
CLIMATE (CANBERRA)
The Gillard government and the coal industry have criticised a new report which says
Labor's carbon tax compensation package is far too generous and will protect companies
that don't deserve to survive.
A Grattan Institute analysis says even with zero assistance and a carbon price as high
as 40 dollars a tonne coal mines would remain open and major LNG projects wouldn't be
significantly affected.
But junior climate change minister MARK DREYFUS disputes the findings, telling the
ABC the government makes no apologies for supporting Australian jobs and competitiveness.
The Australian Coal Association says the analysis relied on just one year of estimated
coal emissions data.
BORDER (SYDNEY)
New South Wales Premier BARRY O'FARRELL and his Queensland counterpart ANNA BLIGH have
committed to expanding cooperation on health, policing, primary industries and disaster
management along the length of the border.
Meanwhile, Ms BLIGH says Queensland is back in business after its flood and cyclone disasters.

Tas: Tasmania police commissioner corruption charges thrown out
By Paul Carter
HOBART, Aug 5 AAP - Tasmania's suspended police commissioner Jack Johnston has been
cleared of corruption charges.
Mr Johnston was facing two charges of disclosing official secrets to the state government
but on Wednesday they were thrown out by Tasmanian Supreme Court Justice Peter Evans.
Justice Evans told the court the prosecution was doomed to fail on issues of duty and
authorisation.
Mr Johnston's lawyers had applied to Justice Evans for a permanent stay of proceedings.
Justice Evans on Wednesday ordered a permanent stay on proceedings, allowing Mr Johnston
to return to work if there is no appeal from the director of public prosecutions, sanctioned
by Premier David Bartlett.
Mr Johnston pleaded not guilty last year to supplying then police minister Jim Cox
and then premier Paul Lennon with details of an ongoing investigation into corruption
allegations against government MPs.
It was alleged the MPs being investigated would have benefited in their defence against
the corruption claims with Mr Johnston's information.
There was ultimately no legal finding of corruption against the MPs concerned.
Mr Johnston's lawyers had argued the briefings were protected under parliamentary privilege
and that under the Westminster system he, as head of the police department, was duty bound
to supply the frank and full information that his minister requested.

Fed: PM and torch relay organisers at odds over Chinese role
CANBERRA, April 18 AAP - Kevin Rudd and organisers of the only Australian leg of the
Olympic torch relay are at odds over what role Chinese officials will play in the event
next week.
The prime minister is insisting the officials - known as "flame attendants" but believed
to be para-military officers - will remain on a bus following the relay participants along
a 20km route through central Canberra.
But organisers say three of the six Chinese officials will actually run with the torch.
Mr Rudd says he has been advised all the officials will remain in the bus unless they
are required to re-light the torch should it be extinguished.
"My understanding is that the Chinese torch attendants will play zero role ... in the
provision of any security," he told Fairfax Radio Network.
"We are providing security here. This is our country, we provide the security - end of story."
Chairman of the Canberra relay task force, Ted Quinlan, says three Chinese flame attendants
will handle the torch at changeover points of the relay.
They would help light the new torch, extinguish the old one, then escort relay runners
back to a support bus, he said.
The three other officials will travel in the support bus to act as back-up if the flame
attendants tired, Mr Quinlan said.
"That's what's been worked out between the Chinese and our police," he told ABC Radio.
Mr Quinlan confirmed the Chinese officials would not have any security role.
"When and if push comes to shove, these people are required by our arrangement to stay
out of any fracas, and in fact, to retreat to the support bus behind them."
Mr Quinlan says he does not know if the Chinese officials will be the same blue tracksuit-clad
security guards who accompanied the torch in London and Paris.
It would be acceptable to the ACT if the officials had a military or police background, he said.
The relay will be run next Thursday (April 24) after the torch arrives in Canberra
the day before.
Security along the route is being beefed up following chaotic scenes in centres where
pro-Tibet protesters have attempted to disrupt the relay.
Up to 5,000 pro-China supporters are expected to witness the Canberra leg along with
an unknown number of pro-Tibet protesters.

The students copyrighted their papers before submitting them to the Web site. On their own Web site, dontturnitin.com, they argue that because Turnitin charges for its service and keeps all submitted material, it makes a profit from students' work without their permission.
Kolt, a political science major, said he sympathizes with the high school students' cause, but he doesn't think a battle over intellectual rights will erupt at UF.
UF has been using the service since March 2003, said Doug Johnson, manager of e-Learning Support Services. He said it is an effective way for the university to assert its credibility.
"Can you cheat your way to a degree at UF? In some cases, probably yes," he said. "Turnitin decreases that chance."
The cost of UF's initial three-year license was about $40,000 and was paid for by the Office of Academic Technology. The service was integrated with WebCT within the first year.
Johnson said there was a demand from both the administration and students for an anti-plagiarism service because the Internet makes cheating so much more difficult for instructors to detect.
848 professors have created Turnitin accounts within the last four years, and most have been satisfied with the service, Johnson said.
The university renewed its license in March 2006 and will probably continue its use as long as there is a need, he added.
Although Johnson said there is a possibility that the arguments brought up by the lawsuit could cause the service to be terminated, he believes the benefits outweigh the negatives. By keeping all submissions, Turnitin protects a student's work because other people won't be able to plagiarize it in the future, he said.
Weighing credibility over property rights is not a clear-cut issue, and people in the communications fields take different sides, said Laurence Alexander, a professor who teaches law of mass communication at UF.
"It involves honesty and integrity, things that we cherish and instill in students," he said. "And at the same time, it involves discerning the rights of these individuals."
Fair use, which allows for copyright material to be used for educational or news purposes, creates a huge exception to the law, Alexander said.
Without a legal precedent, the courts could rule either way.
"A case like this could bring a wrinkle in the law," he said.
Alexander doesn't use the service and said plagiarism has never been a problem in his classes.
Kolt said he sees the site as a good resource for teachers because of how easily students can cheat.
"I think it's a way of protecting the trust between student and teacher," he said. "It breaks it, but the trust has been abused."
The service probably deters students from cheating and does more to keep them honest than simply having an honor code, he said.
But he remains pessimistic about just how much the site would prevent those who are already dishonest.
"For every few people who turn in legitimate papers, there's probably another student who would find a new way to cheat," he said.

WA: West blanks page to expose whitewash
PERTH, Aug 23 AAP - Perth's major newspaper has taken the unusual step of leaving its
front page blank to highlight what it claims is a state government cover up.
"This is the whitewash that is the (Premier Alan) Carpenter government's inquiry into
the death of 11-month-old Wade Scale and other children who died while being monitored
by the Department for Community Development", The West Australian newspaper says in an
otherwise blank space.
"The report will never be made public and we will not be told who gave evidence or
what they said."
Wade Michael Scale was found drowned in a bathtub at his home in Shoalwater, south
of Perth, on July 30, 2003, with diazepam, a prescription sedative, in his blood.
WA Coroner Alastair Hope was unable to determine whether the baby's drug-addicted parents
may have given Wade the drug to keep him quiet.
But he slammed state welfare authorities for failing to adequately protect the toddler
despite repeatedly raised concerns of relatives about the baby.
The West Australian newspaper says a state government inquiry into the deaths of Wade
and other children left with potentially dangerous and neglectful parents will be kept
secret.
Community Development Minister David Templeman says there have been three inquiries
into the case and they uncovered a range of errors that should not have occurred.
"The key issue that I see is that the department works under great pressure and we
have to make sure that we resource those staff so they can do the best job that they can
do," he told ABC Radio.
He said he was "100 per cent committed" to ensuring practices were put in place to
make sure that no more children were left in the care of unfit parents after concerns
were raised by families.

Tas:Stand-off continues as guards try to negotiate with inmates

Tas:Stand-off continues as guards try to negotiate with inmates
HOBART, April 16 AAP - A tense stand-off continues inside Hobart's Risdon Prison, where
a group of inmates is holed up in an accommodation unit after overpowering a guard.
Up to 28 prisoners took control of Division 4 accommodation unit at 10am (AEST) today
after several inmates struggled with a female guard and stole her keys.
Director of Corrective Services Peter Hoult said the guard managed to escape uninjured.
The rest of the prison was locked down and the group posed no risk to other staff or inmates.
He said the Tasmania Prison Service Tactical Response group was on stand-by at the prison.
The latest incident comes less than a year after a siege in which a prison officer
at the maximum security jail was taken hostage.
The jail also holds gunman Martin Bryant, who killed 35 people at Port Arthur almost
10 years ago.
A spokesman for Corrective Services said negotiations were continuing.
"Negotiations are being done by custodial officers at the prison ... people who generally
work with the prisoners day to day," he said.
"They're (the inmates) in their division ... which is in their accommodation area,
which is Division 4," he said.
"All that they've got with them are the contents of their cells."
"I believe they have asked for some takeaway food, I think it was pizza."
He said Corrective Services still had no idea what had motivated the stand-off.
"We have no indication at this stage to what is driving it," he said.
"It has been non-violent. The report I have had is that the inmates are standing around
not doing very much."
Tony Bull, a former prisoner at Risdon prison said inmates have been forced to take
the drastic action because of substandard conditions.
Mr Bull, released from Division 4 earlier this year, said a lack of rehabilitation
opportunities, substandard conditions and prisoner mistreatment had forced inmates to
act.
"You have to understand how badly these guys are being treated," he said.
"If it was a refugee camp or anywhere else, everyone would be jumping up and down and screaming."
Mr Bull said prison management had failed to improve conditions following a siege last
May in which 20 prisoners held a prison officer hostage.
Frustration among prisoners was now "worse than ever", he said.
The ringleader of last year's siege, Conway Wayne Richardson, was jailed for three
years in February this year.
Richardson pleaded guilty to assault and unlawfully destroying property.
A group of inmates kept prison officer Ken Hannah hostage for 33 hours because they
were dissatisfied with conditions in the jail.
They eventually agreed to release him in exchange for pizza.
They caused $65,000 damage to the reception area of the jail during the standoff.

Vic: Thunderstorms lash Ballarat
Victoria has suffered a sixth day of storms with flooded houses in Ballarat, near Melbourne,
evacuated and emergency services kept busy with calls for help.
And, the Bureau of Meteorology says, more thunderstorms are expected across the state
tomorrow night - in a seventh day of storms.
Heavy rainfalls have fallen in the north of the state and 50mm have been dumped on
Charnwood, in the north-east, the bureau says.
A short heavy burst hit Ballarat, dumping 27mm of rain in about half an hour and causing
flash flooding.
State Emergency Service (SES) spokesman PETER COCKS says the SES has received about
80 calls for help from people affected by flooding and strong winds.
Mr COCKS says falling branches have damaged house roofs and several homes had to be
evacuated because of flooding.
Even the SES regional headquarters in Ballarat has been inundated, he says.
Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster RICHARD CARLYON says thunderstorms are expected
across the state again tomorrow night, making it seven days of storms in a row.

BlueKite.com Partners With Navini Networks; Bandwidth Optimization Software Maximizes Available Radio Spectrum.
Business Editors/High-Tech Writers
SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 15, 2001
BlueKite.com, a leading mobile Internet software provider, today announced a partnership with Navini Networks(TM). Navini, which offers telecom operators a wireless, cost-effective alternative to DSL and cable, will integrate BlueKite's bandwidth optimization software into its product offering to enhance its high-speed, nomadic wireless Internet access by maximizing available radio spectrum.
BlueKite's bandwidth optimization software will complement Navini's Ripwave(TM) product offering, enabling telecommunications service providers to serve a high concentration of users without compromising deployment and quality of service issues. Navini and BlueKite will jointly market their combined solution to these operators.
Since its launch earlier this year at SUPERCOMM, Navini has been challenging the rules of high-speed Internet access by providing operators, such as incumbent local exchange carriers (ILECs), inter-exchange carriers (IXCs), competitive local exchange carriers (CLECs) and other telecommunications service providers with a nomadic, zero-install, non-line-of-sight, wireless broadband access that provides the "third leg of the broadband stool."
"Bandwidth has become a limited resource. Navini's partnership with BlueKite will heighten scalability and spectral efficiency so that as demand grows, our customers will continuously maintain high speed, non-line-of-sight Internet access," said Sai Subramanian, director of marketing at Navini Networks. "Navini believes that everyone -- business and home users alike -- has an innate right to broadband Internet access. We believe that BlueKite shares our vision, and we look forward to a fruitful partnership."
"This partnership is clear evidence that the demands on bandwidth are ever-increasing," said Eric Colard, vice president of business development at BlueKite.com. "Navini is set to make nomadic wireless broadband a highly competitive Internet access method, and we look forward to what we believe will be our role in its success -- BlueKite's bandwidth optimization solution."
