Fed: Roxon introduces alcopops legislation into parliament

The federal government's introduced legislation to parliament to cement its alcopops tax.

Labor boosted the tax rate on ready-to-drink alcoholic beverages by 70 per cent via
regulation last April .. and needs the legislation passed by parliament for it to stand.

Health Minister NICOLA ROXON says the oppostion's warned against overplaying the binge-drinking
issue.

But she say in any given week .. one in 10 young people aged betwen 12 and 17 are binge-drinking
or drinking at risky levels .. and the number of young women being admitted to hospitals
due to alcohol has doubled in eight years.
