FED: Noisy Hornets to fly higher and be grounded earlier: Combet

Australia's new Super Hornet fighters will fly over Brisbane at higher altitudes ..

and be grounded earlier at night .. to appease residents concerned about noise.

Defence is buying 24 Super Hornets under a six billion dollar deal to fill the gap
between the departure of the RAAF's ageing F-111 bombers next year .. and the arrival
of the new Lockheed F-35 Lightning Joint Strike Fighters in 2015.

The Hornets will be based at Amberley .. 40km south-west of Brisbane on the outskirts of Ipswich.

Defence Materiel Minister GREG COMBET says additional measures will be implemented
to reduce the impact of the fighters on Brisbane residents .. following public consultation.

The first four Super Hornets are due to arrive at Amberley by April next year.
